Sophisticated Apartment With Lake-View Terrace
The Palazzo’s spacious two-bedroom apartment L’Isola Comacina overlooks the island of the same name on the far side of Lake Como. With access from the main staircase or a private entrance to the right of the main gate, L’Isola Comacina is a striking example of a traditional piano nobile, the first-floor reception rooms of Renaissance palaces that typically had higher ceilings and more elegant appointments than the ground-floor rooms. The vast living room and eat-in kitchen provide plenty of room for families or groups to gather as well as quiet corners for contemplation. Furnished with beautiful period pieces, the original terra cotta floors, an antique fireplace made with the now extinct black marble of Varenna and lovingly restored timber beam ceilings give the apartment its characteristic old-world charm. The views across Lake Como are second to none, either from the step-out balcony above the courtyard (known to inspire renditions of “Don’t Cry For Me Argentina”!) or the covered lake-view terrace, perfect for lazy mornings or elegant sundowners.
An internal staircase leads to the zona notte, where there is one double bedroom, one twin room and a large bathroom featuring a separate bath and shower (another second full shower room is downstairs). The bedrooms charm with antique furnishings, elegant sloped stucco ceilings and distinctive cotto Lombardo floors; custom light fixtures, locally commissioned artwork and fine linens provide additional made-in-Italy flair.
Old World Meets New World
For guests who like their old-world charm with a side of 21st-century creature comforts, L’Isola Comacina boasts a state-of-the-art sound system, flat-screen TVs and complimentary Wi-Fi. The designer kitchen is equipped with all the gadgets you need to whip up your favorite Italian feast (including a Nespresso machine!), and our staff can ensure the fridge is stocked with your favorite staples before you arrive. All guests are very welcome to enjoy the daily breakfast and our new range of light bites before Sala Giunone’s 17th century fireplace, to mingle with other guests at the daily aperitivo under the bar’s 400-year-old ceiling frescos and to take part in local wine and food tastings under the stone-clad ceilings of La Cantina.
