Earlier this year, we posted a handy guide to the major music festivals on Lake Como this summer. But there are still many more festivals to enjoy this year – and with such a wide range of offerings, there is truly something special for everyone!

Festival di Bellagio e del Lago di Como

The Bellagio Festival was founded in 2011, the 200th birthday of Hungarian composer Franz Liszt and the 150th anniversary of the Unification of Italy. Since that time, it has hosted more than 200 events at venues across the lake, drawing inspiration from musicians, writers, thinkers and poets who spent some of the most intense moments of the artistic lives on the lake, personalities like Liszt, Verdi, Wagner, Stendhal, Flaubert and Manzoni. The events take place in extravagant villas, out-of-the-way locales and surprising open-air venues throughout the provinces of Como and Lecco. The concerts showcase international artists of great renown as well as young talents on the cusp of great careers and the supremely talented Bellagio Festival Orchestra, led by conductor and pianist Alessandro Calcagnile.

Though many of this year’s performances have already past, there are several more events to enjoy – and almost all of the events are free to the public. Guests at Palazzo del Vice Re will particularly enjoy the concert on August 2, which is in our local church less that 15 minutes’ walk from the Palazzo. For events further afield, check with Palazzo staff to arrange transportation to and from the venue or to reserve dinner at a traditional lakeside restaurant before the concert.

Bellagio Festival Orchestra will perform highlights of classical music throughout the summer at a variety of charming venues.

Gravedona Chamber Music Festival 2019

We love to recommend to guests at the Palazzo to visit the delightful town of Gravedona on Lake Como’s northern branch, with charms from the traffic-free promenade to the ancient church on a small headland, and from the scenic hiking trails to the stately Palazzo Gallio. A great way to experience this town is on a visit to a concert in the 2ndedition of the Gravedona Chamber Music Festival.

It was the sincere belief in music as “medicine for the soul” that prompted Dr. Clara Curtoni and Maestro Jacopo di Tonno to put together a chamber music festival on Lake Como. After the success of last year’s debut festival, this year’s promises to heal many more souls. Particularly charming are the morning “Breakfast with Bach” concerts that – though they start EARLY! – will offer guests the opportunity to spend the whole day on Lake Como’s northern branch.

Guests can buy a €90 subscription to attend all 9 concerts of the festival, or purchase individual tickets for €15. Children under 14 are free, tickets are €8 for children aged 14-18. Refreshments are served after each concert. Check the festival website for more information on tickets and the events themselves. Our staff at the Palazzo would be happy to advise guests on transportation to and from the concerts as well as attractive restaurants nearby to make the most of the summer evening.
