Music Festival in Bellagio Lake Como 2018

>Music Festival in Bellagio Lake Como 2018

A few weeks ago, we posted a handy guide to the major music festivals on Lake Como this summer. The final schedules for two additional festivals have just been published, so we’d like to share an update this week on the LacMus Festival 2018 and the Festival di Bellagio e del Lago di Como 2018. There are some great events on offer, from the “Pomeriggi Musicali” afternoon concert series at locations around the lake to a special day of concerts on the Greenway hiking path, there is truly something special for everyone in these two fantastic festivals!

LacMus Festival 2018

LacMus Festival, co-founded in 2017 by French-Canadian pianist and Italian conductor Paolo Bressan, seeks to inspire international musicians with the beauty of Lake Como and give local audiences unforgettable moments. Giving professional musicians – both young talents and great maestros – the opportunity to escape their “daily routine” and come together in the unparalleled Lake Como atmosphere will prompt an exciting exchange of ideas and creativity.

This year, the festival pays homage to classical composers like Rossini, Debussy and Tchaikovsky as well as modernists Leonard Bernstein and George Gershwin. Two events commemorate the Nadežhda von Meck, the enigmatic personality who hired Debussy as a music teacher for her children and financially supported Tchaikovsky for over a decade.

The festival has invited talented young musicians from the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel of Belgium to take part, a reunion of sorts between the Belgians and the Comaschi – after World War I, Italy gave the Isola Comacina to the Belgians in gratitude for the bravery of the Belgian soldiers who fought alongside Italy (they returned it the following year!).

Some of these events are free, while many others are ticketed. Tickets go on sale next week – so keep an eye on the festival website for more information on securing a seat at these special events. Our staff at the Palazzo would be happy to advise guests on transportation to and from the concerts as well as attractive restaurants nearby to make the most of the summer evening.

Festival di Bellagio e del Lago di Como

The Bellagio Festival was founded in 2011, the 200th birthday of Hungarian composer Franz Liszt and the 150th anniversary of the Unification of Italy. Since that time, it has hosted more than 200 events at venues across the lake, drawing inspiration from musicians, writers, thinkers and poets who spent some of the most intense moments of the artistic lives on the lake, personalities like Liszt, Verdi, Wagner, Stendhal, Flaubert and Manzoni. The events take place in extravagant villas, out-of-the-way locales and surprising open-air venues throughout the provinces of Como and Lecco. The concerts showcase international artists of great renown as well as young talents on the cusp of great careers and the supremely talented Bellagio Festival Orchestra, led by conductor and pianist Alessandro Calcagnile.

Almost all of the events are free to the public, while some are ticketed. The festival management will be updating details on the specific music to be played and selling tickets over the coming weeks – check back with the festival website for more information. Guests at Palazzo del Vice Re will particularly enjoy the concert on 20 July, which is in our local church less that 15 minutes’ walk from the Palazzo. For events further afield, check with Palazzo staff to arrange transportation to and from the venue or to reserve dinner at a traditional lakeside restaurant before the concert.
