Romantic Palazzo 3 Nights

Located in the heart of the historic center of Lezzeno, a special place awaits you. Now you can live your dream in Italy as a guest of Il Palazzo del Vice Re; a unique boutique property only rarely available for holiday experiences, except to well-connected insiders.

Day One

Arrive at the Palazzo and check into your beautiful junior suite La Vista. Enjoy a chilled glass of Prosecco as you settle in, taking in the stunning wraparound views of the lake and the mountains beyond from your corner suite. Later, stroll hand-in-hand through the ancient lakeside hamlets of Lezzeno, discovering hidden charms around every corner in this typical Lake Como borgo. After changing for dinner, meet your English-speaking captain for a private boat ride to one of the town’s most beloved lakeside restaurants. Take a seat on the terrace at Ristorante Aurora for a candlelight dinner featuring specialties straight from the wood-fired oven and a chilled glass of local wine, watching the sun go down across the lake.

Day Two

Following a late leisurely breakfast, meet your private guide for a boat tour of the villages, villas and gardens of the Central Lake Area – Bellagio, Pescallo, Varenna, Cadenabbia, Tremezzo, Mezzegra, Lenno, Sala Comacina all await you. The highlight of the day’s touring has got to be Villa Balbianello.  This elegant 18th century villa sit on a promontory jutting out into the lake, delighting visitors with its lush gardens, its unique loggia and its historic prominence in Italy’s fight for independence. For lunch, continue on to Isola Comacina, Lake Como’s one and only island. Spend as much time as you like exploring the island and its multi-colored fishermen’s cottages and stately villas before rejoining your guide and Captain to return to the Palazzo for a little R&R. This evening join the owner of the Palazzo under the vaulted stone-clad ceilings of the Cantina to sample some of his favorite wines and delicacies, including melt-in-your-mouth prosciutto and locally produced cheeses, honey and olives.

Day Three

Enjoy breakfast in bed at the hour of your choice before heading for a morning in beautiful Bellagio. Meander through this beloved village’s ancient lanes and stairways, stopping to admire the historic buildings with their wrought iron balconies and to peruse the quaint boutiques, art galleries, bars and restaurants. Wander through the lush park of Villa Melzi, with its botanical curiosities and centuries-old trees, a you make your way to Loppia. Stop off at Alle Darsene Restaurant for a lunch on the restaurant’s covered veranda overlooking Loppia’s antique marina. For your trip back to the villa, opt for a private water taxi that follows the coast, providing optimal views of stunning lakeside villas, or take the public boats that zig zag across the lake towards Lezzeno. Mingle with the palazzo’s other guests at Il Bar for the daily aperitivo before taking the leisurely 15-minute stroll to nearby Crotto del Misto for a special dinner on the lake shore – the perfect end to a perfect stay…. Buon Appetito!

Time to say goodbye, but not until you have enjoyed one more breakfast at the Palazzo’s bountiful buffet…

Having It All Palazzo 3 Nights

Day One

Check into the Palazzo and settle into the beautiful L’Isola Comacina apartment, where the only worry you’ll have is who gets which bedroom… Head down to the Loggia for a chilled glass of wine as you take in the stunning lake views and discuss your itinerary for the next few days with the Palazzo staff. Then, grab your cameras and meet your expert guide for a photography tour of Lezzeno. This is not only a great way to hone your camera skills, but also an opportunity to get to know the town, its rich history and all the exciting things it has on offer. Take a leisurely pre-dinner cruise out to Isola Comacina – the apartment’s namesake – and enjoy a leisurely aperitivo lakeside before heading up to Locanda dell’Isola for a fun casual family-style dinner.

Day Two

Enjoy our sweet and savory breakfast buffet before heading to beloved Bellagio for a full-day visit to the “Pearl of Lake Como” – this town has loads on offer: everything from shopping, visiting gardens, taking in the local culture and rich history or quite simply appreciating the town’s natural beauty. Before lunch why not try your hand at making pizza at the local pizzeria, before sitting down to enjoy the fruits of your labor. Spend the afternoon at leisure exploring some of the towns and villages in the central lake area, hopping on and off the local boats as you head back towards the Palazzo. Spend an enjoyable evening under the stone-clad vaults of La Cantina this evening, tasting some of the local wines accompanied by local cheeses and cold cuts, home made breads, fresh olives and honey.

Day Three

After breakfast head south to Como – an easy trip whether you chose to go by hydrofoil, private boat or private car. Meet up with your local guide in Como and dive deep into the sights and sounds of one of Lombardy’s most beautiful cities. Known as the Silk Capitol of Europe for its luxury textile industry, Como is not only a city of great historical, cultural and artistic interest – it boasts some great shopping as well. Following your time in Como, enjoy a late lunch at one of the world’s finest hotels – the Grand Hotel Villa D’Este, just a short 3 miles away from Como in the heart of charming Cernobbio. Spend the afternoon enjoying a leisurely cruise back to the Palazzo, admiring the stunning lakeside villas from their best side. Speak to the Palazzo staff about the great restaurants nearby and head out on foot for a candlelit, lakeside dinner.

Day Four

The perfect day for an early start – why not hit the kayaks this morning before breakfast and explore the coastline with your local expert kayak guide as the sun rises over the mountains. You are bound to work up an appetite for the vast breakfast buffet that awaits you back at the Palazzo, before you pack up your things and bid your new friends at the Palazzo an “Arrivederci!”

All-You-Can-Eat Adventure 4 Nights

Day One

Check into the beautiful Palazzo del Vice Re where the ever popular l’Onda Apartment awaits you. The big question on arrival will be who gets to sample the Jacuzzi first and when… Once you’ve unpacked, why wait? The lake awaits you – we suggest heading out on the lake with your very own Captain, or check out the Kayak Center and the Water Ski School. Whether you are into mono-skiing, paddle boarding or even kite surfing, you can literally have it all on Lake Como. Enjoy a pre-dinner aperitivo in the cool stone-clad Cantina before heading over to a nearby pizzeria for one of the best pizza’s in the area – the perfect start to your stay on Lake Como!

Day Two

Following a hearty breakfast, meet your local guide and driver and head off to the mountains to hit the slopes with the mountain bikes. Test your skills through the obstacle course, as you work up an appetite for a traditional polenta lunch at Rifugio Martina. On your way back to Lezzeno in the afternoon, why not stop off in Bellagio for a homemade gelato and get a feel for what it this beloved town has on offer. For tonight’s dinner, you’re in for a treat: Ittiturismo Abate Restaurant is based on the concept of an agriturismo (working farm with a restaurant), but here the owner actually personally catches all of the fish he serves in the restaurant. Any fresher and the fish would literally be jumping off the plate!

Day Three

A leisurely breakfast awaits you before you head out on the lake with the kayaks. The early morning is the perfect time to explore the lake, admiring the stunning villas lining the shores and stopping off for mid-morning coffee at our favorite Beach Bar in San Giovanni. Paddle your way back to the Palazzo enjoying the 360-degree views of this beautiful scenery. This afternoon take the hydrofoil to Argegno, the cable car to Pigra and then enjoy a fun hike along the hillsides of the Pre-Alps as you may your way towards Sala Comacina. From here, take a fishing boat to Isola Comacina (the one and only island on Lake Como) for a cool refreshing drink before returning by boat (or jet Ski!!) to the Palazzo. For dinner toniht, we recommend nearby Ristorante Aurora. No matter what’s your pleasure (Pasta? Meat? Fish? Seafood? Risotto? Pizza?) – you name it – they’ve got it. Buon Appetito…

Day Four

This morning, after breakfast, take the hydrofoil to Varenna on the Eastern Coast of the Lake and follow in the footsteps of the Romans taking the Wayfarer Trail to Varenna. This moderate half-day hike takes you along the hillsides to one of the lake’s most ancient and well known paths through towns and villages, the vistas surrounding you are quite simply stunning and the nature, flora and fauna that you will enjoy along the route are second to none.

Lunch in Varenna at one of the local Trattoria’s before hopping on the ferry for the short ride to Bellagio : Time at leisure in Bellagio to enjoy the local stores, exploring the alleyways and hidden corners of what many people call the ‘Jewel’ of Lake Como… before returning to the Palazzo.

Following a Farewell Aperitivo with the Staff at the Palazzo this evening why not head to nearby Careno (Locanda all’Approdo) to enjoy a casual local dinner in this historic Locanda – the menu is decided by the chef, the wine too, the atmosphere and location unique.

Day Five

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast prior to sadly packing your bags and bidding a fond Arrivederci to your friends at the Palazzo – this is not a goodbye but a ‘Until next time’

Full On Italian Adventure 5 Nights

Day One

Check into the beautiful L’Onda apartment on the third floor and enjoy some of our home made cookies and treats as you settle in. This afternoon meet your local guide in the Palazzo courtyard and head out for a fun, easy hike along one of the lake’s most historic routes – the Strada Regia. As you explore some of Lezzeno’s most beautiful corners, you get some insight into what the village has on offer and a brief introduction to the entire Lake Como region. Start the evening at the aperitivo with the Palazzo staff, enjoying a cool cocktail and some complimentary snacks under the loggia before heading to a local pizzeria nearby the hotel for wood-fired pizza and a chilled glass of local white wine.

Day Two

Following a hearty breakfast at the Palazzo’s sweet and savory buffet, get prepared to head out onto the lake and explore the area by kayak. Your guide is not only an expert kayaker, but has loads of entertaining stories to share about the local area. Stop off for a mid-morning coffee break at the Beach Bar near San Giovanni – this is definitely a place you will want to return to later in the week. Return to L’Onda for a pasta lunch, prepared in your fully stocked kitchen – maybe you’ll try out some of our favorite recipes! In the afternoon, take the Palazzo’s complimentary bikes to explore the local region on two wheels. Later in the evening, take a private water taxi along the shore for a pre-dinner cruise. Since most of the lakefront properties are situated below the lake road, a boat ride is the best way to see how the other half lives in these stunning villas. Dock in front of a quaint Osteria in a nearby town for a real Lake Como dinner experience. The only way to order here is off-menu – and the owner prides himself in providing the perfect meal you didn’t even know you wanted…

Day Three

Following an early morning breakfast (or a packed picnic basket to enjoy along the way!), meet your guide in the palazzo courtyard and take the Hydrofoil to Como. A short stroll takes you to the funicolare – a 100+-year-old cable car that makes its way 3,500 feet up the hillside to the chic 19th century town of Brunate, which the locals call the “balcony of the Alps”. Today’s full day hike from Brunate to Bellagio takes you along a well-marked trail through 15 miles of mountain-top territory. The path goes in and out of the forest, with plenty of chances to stop along the way at a typical rifugio for refreshments. This is a great way to experience the lake from a completely different vantage point – and temperatures are generally a bit cooler this high. A well appreciated refreshing drink (as well as return transportation) awaits you at the tiniest of bars at the bottom of Monte San Primo, before you enjoy a relaxing ride down the hillside back to the Palazzo. Rest your tired hiking legs in the apartment’s Jacuzzi overlooking the lake, before sitting down to a dinner prepared by our private chef – the choice is yours: eat in your own apartment or have dinner served in the Cortile or down in the Cantina…

Day Four

Following a relaxing breakfast served under the Loggia, meet your guide and head out for your Alpine adventure. After a short trip on the local hydrofoil or ferry to Varenna and then a local train, board the Bernina Express, the highest railway in the Alps. Enjoy the magnificent scenery from your panoramic train car, as you make your way past the glaciers, through the tunnels and along the mountains towards St Moritz. Following a typical Swiss lunch in the heart of St Moritz (don’t miss the Rosti – a typical Swiss dish made of potatoes that was once a staple of Alpine farmers), explore this charming town at your leisure. After a breathtaking cable car ride up the mountain, meet your driver for the trip across the Maloja Pass towards the Italian border. Keep your eyes on the scenery as the car makes its way back down to the lake and stop off in Chiavenna, a beautifully preserved 16th century town with narrow alleys, baroque churches and must-have mountain delicacies like Valtellina Casera cheese. After putting your feet up for a bit back in your apartment, stroll into the heart of Lezzeno for a fantastic dinner featuring lake fish at Ittiturismo Abate.

Day Five

Why not enjoy breakfast served in your apartment today, as this is your last full day here at the Palazzo. Enjoy a late start and head north to Bellagio for a little retail therapy or a guided tour of the park of Villa Serbelloni, a stunning garden operated by the Rockefeller Foundation, which is stocked with rare and exotic plants. At lunchtime head to Trattoria San Giacomo in the heart of Bellagio’s historical center for some traditional cuisine. Stay in Bellagio for the afternoon or take a trip across the lake to Villa Carlotta for a tour of this 18th century palace with its botanical gardens. Rub shoulders with the rich and famous as you take your aperitivo on the beach at the Grand Hotel Tremezzo. “T Beach” also serves dinner, but you may want to take the 5-minute stroll down to the wine bar at Cantina La Follie for a light meal. Return to the Palazzo by private water taxi.

Day Six

Enjoy a special farewell breakfast, before bidding farewell to your new friends at the Palazzo.

Family Fun 7 Nights

Day One

Arrive at the Palazzo and check into the beautiful L’Isola Comacina apartment, where your fridge is fully stocked with family favorites and local specialities as per your request. Take time to settle into your new home away from home and take in the lake views. When you’re ready, head down to the courtyard to meet the Palazzo staff and get a briefing on the Palazzo and its environs. Take a short stroll through the nearby area, exploring the local park, the rowing club, etc. to get a sense of where you are and all of the opportunities available to you. In the afternoon head to Bellagio and explore all this beautiful town has to offer before visiting the Bellagio Sporting Club for a late afternoon swim. While you are there, make sure you check out their weekly schedule of activities for visitors of all ages.

Day Two

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast served on your private terrace by the Palazzo staff – if you let us know your favorite breakfast items, we’ll make sure you have everything you need for the rest of your stay. Spend the morning on the Lake with a private water taxi and a local guide to explore the towns and villages, villas and gardens which line the lake shore – a great way to sit back and relax and get to know the area. Don’t miss the lake’s most beautiful villa – the Villa Balbianello and its stunning gardens, before cruising over to Lake Como’s only island Isola Comacina for a relaxed, family-style lunch. Head back to the palazzo for some downtime before sitting down to dinner at lakeside Aurora Restaurant. Not only do they serve the lake’s best brick oven pizza, but they offer a wide range of water sports, too. Make plans to return and try your hand at wakeboarding or tubing later in the week.

Day Three

Enjoy breakfast on your time before heading to Como on the hydrofoil. Enjoy exploring this charming city, whether you indulge in some retail therapy or follow in the footsteps of inventor Alessandro Volta. After you have gotten a taste of Como, meet your driver for a trip across the Swiss border to Lugano. Enroute, your teenagers may want to stop off at Fox Town, a massive outlet mall with everything from Armani to Versace. Other family highlights across the border include Swiss Miniatur – a park with all of Switzerland’s main attractions in miniature – including mechanical cable cars and architectural monuments – and the Alprose Chocolate Factory – a charming little museum with exhibits on the history and science of chocolate and a mouth-watering factory store. On your drive along the lake back to the Palazzo, stop off in Porlezza for ome of the best gelato in the area before heading through the Val Menaggina back to Lake Como. Depending on the kids’ energy level (and yours!), stay in for dinner or head back to Aurora for that delicious pizza.

Day Four

Enjoy a relaxing breakfast and then meet your guide for a trip up to San Primo Mountain. Spend the morning mountain biking on the trails or try your luck at the obstacle course before hiking over to our favorite traditional mountain restaurant, Rifugio Martina, for a lunch of the area’s beloved polenta – simple peasant’s fare that has become a favorite for young and old. On the way back to Lezzeno stop off at Aurora for an afternoon of watersports. When you return to the Palazzo, you’ll pick up the scent of our private chef’s fantastic cooking. He will make the meal to your specifications and serve it on your private lakeview terrace.

Day Five

Following a leisurely breakfast, head across the lake to Argegno. Here, take one of the area’s steepest cable cars up to the hillside town of Pigra. After exploring this charming little village, enjoy a gentle hike along the hillsides with a stunning panorama of the lake and the mountains beyond. The trail takes you north towards Sala Comacina, passing the chapels of Madonna del Soccorso which have an amazing story to tell. Head back down to the lakeside for a leisurely late lunch at Tirlindana (try the lemon ravioli!!) before returning via water taxi back the Palazzo. Before dinner, you can take an early evening cruise with the local fisherman to help position the nets and prepare for the evening’s catch. Take advantage of the great produce stocked in your kitchen for a leisurely dinner at home, sitting on your covered terrace to watch the sun go down over the lake.

Day Six

Breakfast at Leisure at the Palazzo served on your beautiful terrace as you take in the sunrise. Then meet your driver downstairs and head south along the lakeside road towards Como and then Milan for a day of fun, history, culture, art and shopping. On arrival in Milan, your local city guide will take you to see da Vinci’s famous Last Supper (timed entrance tickets means no waiting in line!) and this fascinating city’s other must-see sights like the Duomo (climb up to the roof to get a bird’s eye view of Milan!), the opera house La Scala and the ever elegant Galleria Vittorio Emanuele (Italy’s finest indoor arcade). We have some great suggestions for your lunch and your guide will point you in the right direction. Spend the afternoon shopping and exploring before making your way back to the lake. On returning to the Palazzo, try your hand at making homemade pasta with a local expert pasta maker before sitting down to enjoy the fruits of your labor.

Day Seven

Breakfast at leisure on the terrace or in your apartment before heading to the Jungle Raider adventure park in Civenna. Today is all about fun: mountain bike through the park, play laser tag, try your hand at canyoning or do a circuit in the aerial trail adventure (with different circuits for kids from 3-99!). On your way back to the Palazzo stop off for a well-earned gelato in Bellagio. For dinner, as it’s your last night, you may want to return to one of your favorite restaurants, try something new or spend one last evening on the apartment’s covered terrace with those fabulous lake views.

Day Eight

Enjoy a final farewell breakfast before saying “Arrivederci” (not goodbye!!) to your new friends at the Palazzo – we look forward to welcome you again very soon…
