Festival Como Città della Musica

Lake Como has been a vacation spot and a restful retreat for artists and musicians for centuries – Bellini, Stendhal, Liszt and Wordsworth to name just a few. This festival crowns Como as a “city of music” for the summer season, with a wide variety of genres – from opera to pop, electronica to symphony – and a wide variety of venues – from the indoor and outdoor theaters of the Teatro Sociale in Como to lakeside villas, airplane hangars and monuments. This year’s festival is entitled La Notte che Resta, a quote from Verdi’s Traviata, and the festival opens with a scene from the maestro’s beloved opera featuring the so-called project, which seeks to enlist “citizen” chorists for their opera productions. The auditions and rehearsals are competitive and exciting, resulting in over 300 people from amateurs to professionals participating in the summer production.
